This is not meant to be a list of every movie with a snake in it, just some of those I have discovered and want to discuss.
When I watch or learn of a new one, I'll add it to the list. If you know of a good snake movie I should add, let me know.

Most of these are live-action feature films that use real, artificial, or special effect snakes (CGI, VFX, etc.)
I'm not going to try to list TV episodes, commercials, animated films, or nature documentaries but there are some made-for-tv movies on the list.

The intent here is to have fun documenting some of the many fun and ridiculous misrepresentations of snakes in movies, along with the rare times when they got it right. (Seriously, if they're so often wrong about snakes, how can we believe anything we see in movies?)

The snake detection theory proposes that humans are able to detect hidden snakes quickly because people who were better at recognizing them improved their survival chances and passed the skill to their offspring. The end result is that our visual systems evolved to make us better at detecting snakes. This is one reason that Snakes are the most commonly-used reptiles in movies. They trigger an inherent fear most people have of snakes. Because there are snakes in real life that are capable of killing people, the audience believes that all snakes in movies are dangerous, even the harmless ones. So it's easy to use a snake as a convenient evil adversary or obstacle for a character to overcome. A snake in a movie can add tension and a little extra drama, like a gun, a car chase, or a sexual situation, but I often get the feeling that they are added only for plot convenience.

The Addams Family (1991)

A musican plays an instrument made out of a live snake. He blows into the tail and fingers holes on its body as the sound comes out of the snake's mouth.

Alligator (1980)

A Navy Seal at a firing range proves his marksmanship by shooting a cryptic rattlesnake coiled near his target.

Anaconda (1997) (The first movie in the franchise.)

A documentary film crew boats up a river full of gigantic human-eating Anacondas.

Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid (2004) (The second movie in the franchise.)

Somehow giant Anacondas made it all the way to Borneo, where they got even bigger and angrier than they were in South America.

Two gigantic Anacondas kept in a laboratory and used to make a life-prolonging serum escape, leaving a trail of bloody corpses.

A gigantic lab-created monster Anaconda is cut in half and becomes two monster snakes.

Angel of Vengeance (War Cat) (1987)

A woman who is abducted and abused gets revenge by throwing one of her captors into a pit full of rattlesnakes.

Ankur (1974)

A city man sees a cobra come near him and screams for help to his country servant woman who easily scares the snake away with a stick.

Any Which Way You Can (1980)

New York City mobsters bet on a fight between a ferret and a rattlesnake.

Apocalypto (2006)

Barbarosa (1982)

An outlaw climbing down a cliff is startled by a rattlesnake. He catches it as it strikes at him then falls off a cliff into a river with it. When he comes up out of the water, he panics and throws the snake away onto a rock, unharmed.

Bedazzled (2000)

The publicity artwork for this movie promised Liz Hurley in a low-cut dress with a Boa Constrictor around her neck but it lied! (About the snake, not the dress.) I figure if they can lie, so can I, by putting the movie on this list.

Beetlejuice (1988)

Bio-exorcist Betelgeuse becomes a gigantic rattlesnake to scare away the new tenants of a house haunted by two recently-dead ghosts.

A giant fire-breathing snake battles another giant snake.

The Big Doll House (1971)

A sadistic women's prison guard keeps snakes in her office and uses a cobra to torture women.

Big Fish (2003)

A man swims after a snake that is swimming towards a woman who is skinny-dipping at night in a pond.

Big Freakin' Snake (2023)

Pollution causes some snakes to mutate into giants and others to agressively attack people.

The Blood of Fu Manchu (1968)

Fu Manchu makes an army of beautiful female assassins by forcing venomous snakes to bite them. The women develop venomous lips which can kill a man with a kiss.

Boa vs. Python (2004) (the fourth movie in the Python franchise)

A giant mutant python escapes, so the F.B.I. thinks it's a good idea to use a gigantic cybernetically-enhanced Boa Constrictor to hunt the python. Bad idea.

Bone Dry (2007)

A man being chased in the desert searches inside a truck and a rattlesnake hiding under the seat bites his hand.

An angry gangster kills a snake to show other gangsters how mean he is.

Bullet Train (2022)

An assassin steals a venomous Boomslang from a zoo to use its venom to kill people. The snake escapes onto a bullet train where it bites someone.

Buried (2010)

A man is buried alive in a coffin. As if that isn't bad enough, he discovers that a snake has crawled into the coffin with him.

The Cabin in the Woods (2011)

A giant monster snake is one of the nightmare creatures used in horror movies that escape their cages and wreak havoc on their captors.

Calamity of Snakes (1982)

A sleazy land developer kills thousands of snakes, then thousands more snakes form an army to get revenge by killing his workers and his tenants.

Call Her Savage (1932)

A rattlesnake scares a woman's horse, which throws her to the ground, so she whips the snake savagely, again and again.

Da 5 Bloods (2020) - Four Vietnam war veterans return to Vietnam where they see a decapitated snake for sale in a market. Later, in the jungle, a snake drops out of some bamboo onto one of the men and bites him on the arm.

Dante's Inferno [L'inferno] (1911)

In Dante's version of Hell, thieves are punished in a giant pit full of nasty, biting snakes.

Dark Tide (1994)

We see lots of sea snakes in this movie, in the ocean, collected for their venom, crawling over naked bodies, and used as weapons.

Day of the Animals (1977)

Because the ozone layer has been depleted, animals at high elevations have become bloodthirsty killers, including the snakes.

A Day Without A Mexican (2004)

This movie shows us that if all Mexicans in California disappeared there would be nobody to wash dishes, blow leaves, pick fruit, or shoot rattlesnakes that are threatening our children.

Desert Gold (1936)

A tenderfoot shoots at a gopher snake until his partner tells him that it's harmless. Later he finds a rattlesnake. Thinking it harmless, he is about to grab it when his partner shoots it.

Desierto (2015)

An illegal immigrant encounters a "nest" of rattlesnakes that don't hurt anyone. It's the psycopathic border vigilante they really need to worry about.

Despicable Me 2 (2013)

A villain named El Macho is so macho that he squirts venom from a rattlesnake into his drink at a bar.

A beautiful snake goddess protects humans from themselves and from an evil snake demon.

The Devil's Rain (1975)

A man wears a magic amulet around his neck to protect him from a Satanic priest, but the priest uses magic to make him believe that the amulet is a snake. The man freaks out and throws the snake to the ground, where we see that it is really the amulet, and the man is no longer protected.

The Devonsville Terror (1983)

Someone put a snake under the bedcovers of a woman they suspect to be a witch to kill her or maybe to just convince her to leave town.

Distant Drums (1951)

Gary Cooper shoots a snake to save a sailor's life, then he holds a rattlesnake's open mouth in the face of an Indian to torture him.

Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze (1975)

Kulkan, the medicine man of the Quetzamals, a supposedly-extinct tribe that lives in a hidden valley in South America, kills people with "The Green Death" - deadly magic green snakes that can crawl through the air to strike at their victims, killing them quickly. The magic snakes are made from the venom of live green snakes.

Double Exposure (1982)

A psycho-killer photographer puts a rattlesnake in a trash bag and ties it to a woman's head until she is bitten and dies.

Dragnet (1987)

A woman is abducted, dressed in a bridal gown, then thrown into a pool of water to be a human sacrifice for an Anaconda.

Dreamscape (1984)

A horrible monster called The Snakeman terrorizes a young boy in his nightmares.

We are shown a muscle car running over a snake on a back road for no apparent reason.

Criminal mastermind Dr. Mabuse milks a viper's venom to make poison.

A bunch of snakes with mechanical noisemakers on them are put in a room with a man to kill him.

Drunken Master (1978)

A mischievous young man uses an eel that looks like a snake to scare a girl to jump into his arms in order to win a bet.

A snake (a large python) is left in a room to guard it from intruders. It's really just a plot device to enable the hero to shoot at the floor. He misses the snake, but breaks the floor tile the snake was crawling on, exposing a secret hiding place that the snake is protecting.

Using a snake as a guard is a nice exotic addition to a movie but in reality it's a bad idea because snakes will try to hide at any opportunity, unlike a guard dog.

After a small group of survivors from a cruise for the ultra-wealthy is shipwrecked on a beach, they huddle together in a raft at night. Strange loud noises from the dark jungle scare them and us as well. The camera shows us two Boa Constrictors crawling in some vines towards the raft, just to scare us even more, but that fright is never paid off. Unfortunately for this list, an army of snakes did not descend on the raft, nobody is bitten or strangled by snakes and nobody heroically fights them off. The snakes are simply never shown again. I know I'm always begging for a more realistic treatment of snakes in movies, and that's what this is, but I was still disappointed, having learned to expect misinformation and over-dramatization.
