Snakes Used as Weapons in Movies

This is an alphabetical list of movies in which snakes or their venom are used as deadly weapons, taken from the main Snakes in Movies List.

In these films, snakes are intentionally used to defend a space or to attack, punish, threaten, or kill someone, including self-inflicted injury and suicides.
In several films, snake venom is extracted and used to poison someone.

Watching a snake used as a weapon is one of my favorite uses of a snake in a movie, but it's a really bad idea. Releasing a venomous snake and expecting it to kill someone is not at all a good way to kill someone, even if you're trying to avoid the appearance of murder. First, there's only a very small chance that the snake will actually stay around long enough to bite the intended victim before it tries to escape. Then, even if the snake does bite, there is no guarantee that it will inject enough venom to kill the victim. If the victim is bitten, death certainly would not happen as quickly as it does in most movie snakebite scenes. There would probably be hours or even days of suffering. I've learned from the movies that there are far less fun but more efficient ways to kill someone and make it look like an accident than using a snake.

A snake hunter collects venomous snakes on a tropical island to sell their venom to pharmaceutical companies. He also uses the venom to make poison darts to use in his blow gun.

Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold (1986)

In a comic scene, a woman trying to avoid getting abducted by a man throws a basket at him, not knowing that it was full of snakes. She quickly decides to use them as weapons, commanding them to attack. They ignore her command, and the bad guy knows they're harmless anyway.

Angel of Vengeance (War Cat) (1987)

A woman who was abducted and abused by a group of crazy psdudo-military survivalists gets revenge on the group's leader by forcing him into a pit full of rattlesnakes that was made by one of his men.

The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970)

Two men try to kill him, then hide in a pit, so Cable throws rattlesnakes into the pit to force them out.

The Big Doll House (1971)

A sadistic guard at a women's prison keeps snakes in her office and uses a cobra to torture female prisoners.

Black Samurai (1977)

A mobster cult leader called The Warlock throws people into a jail cell full of killer snakes to get rid of them.

The Blade Master [aka: Cave Dwellers; Ator: The Invincible] (1984)

Nubile maidens are thrown into a snake pit as human sacrifices to be devoured by a giant monster snake.

The Blood of Fu Manchu (1968)

Fu Manchu makes an army of beautiful female assassins by forcing them to be bitten by venomous snakes. The snake bite gives them the power to kill a man with a kiss.

Bride of the Gorilla (1951)

A man intentionally knocks another man down next to a snake that bites him and kills him.

Bruka Queen of Evil (1973)

An evil old snake woman and her young Medusa-haired ancestor use snakes to kill people.

Bullet Train (2022)

An assassin steals a venomous Boomslang from a zoo to use its venom to kill people. She puts the venom into a syringe which she injects into her victim. The victim dies in 30 seconds, bleeding from all of its orifices.

Bus Party to Hell (2017) [Party Bus to Hell]

A psychotic cult of devil worshiping cannibals put a large python into a woman's mouth. After it crawls to her stomach, they cut it out of her with a knife. More snakes appear on the party bus and kill a few more of the passengers.

Chandu the Magician (1932)

Chandu turns the rifles of three gunmen into snakes and they run away in horror.
This might be the only example of weapons that are turned into snakes that are used as weapons against the original weapons holders that I know of.

Charlie Chan at the Circus (1936)

A Cobra is dropped onto Charlie Chan's bed to kill him.

Chato's Land (1972)

Charles Bronson hurls a rattlesnake off a hill onto a bad guy. End of bad guy.

Circus of Horrors (1960)

A circus performer who threatens to expose the criminal past of her boss, finds a deadly snake on the floor of her trailer, put there to kill her.

Cleopatra (1934)

Cleopatra commits suicide by holding an asp to her breast.

Cleopatra commits suicide by putting her hand in a basket that holds an asp.

Cold Creek Manor (2003)

Somebody fills a house with snakes to terrorize a family.

A guerilla soldier who made a mistake is forced to swallow a snake as punishment.

Color of Night (1994) - Bruce Willis finds a rattlesnake that someone put in his mail box.

Conan the Barbarian (1982)

Thulsa Doom, the evil head of a murderous snake cult, turns his snakes into arrows and shoots them with a bow, killing whoever is struck by them. Then they turn back into snakes.

Cowboy (1958)

A cowboy finds a rattlesnake at their campsite so he picks it up with a stick and throws it at someone as a joke. Then it gets thrown back and forth until somebody gets bit.

The Craft (1996)

A high school witch conjures up thousands of snakes to torment a girl who has had terrifying hallucinations of snakes.

Creature with the Blue Hand (1967)

An evil psychiatric doctor kills a woman with a snake and fills a room with snakes to force another woman to do what he wants.

Creeping Death (Kill the Poker Player) (1972)

A zoologist collects venomous snakes to use their venom for medicine, and someone is stealing them and using them to kill people.

Crocodile Dundee II (1988)

As part of his tactics to terrorize a group of gangsters who are hunting Dundee and his girlfriend, Dundee sneaks into their camp at night and throws a bag holding a large harmless python at the sentry, who was sleeping.

A man opens a package delivered to him to find a deadly snake that someone put there to kill him.

Dante's Inferno [L'inferno] (1911)

In Dante's version of Hell, thieves are punished in a giant pit full of nasty, biting snakes.

Dark Tide (1994)

A woman releases a bunch of captive sea snakes into a tub. Later she pushes a man who is trying to hurt her into the tub and he is bitten multiple times then dies.

Someone put a snake under the bedcovers of a woman they suspect to be a witch to kill her or maybe to just convince her to leave town.

Dick Barton Strikes Back (1949)

A bad guy thinks he's clever locking secret agent Dick Barton in a room full of venomous snakes in glass cages, then shooting the glass from outside the room to let the snakes escape to kill the men. But he doesn't feel so clever after the men escape and toss him into the room with the snakes.

Distant Drums (1951)

Gary Cooper holds a rattlesnake's open mouth in the face of an Indian to torture him.

Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze (1975)

Kulkan, the medicine man of the Quetzamals, a supposedly-extinct tribe that lives in a hidden valley in South America, kills people with "The Green Death" - deadly magic green snakes that can crawl through the air to strike at their victims, killing them quickly. The magic snakes are made by using the venom of live green snakes.

Dr. Mabuse: The Gambler (1922)

Criminal mastermind Dr. Mabuse milks a viper's venom to use in a poison he uses to kill people.

Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972)

A bunch of snakes with mechanical noisemakers on them are put in a room with a man to kill him.

Double Exposure (1982)

A psycho-killer photographer puts a rattlesnake in a trash bag and ties it to a woman's head until she is bitten by the snake and dies.

Dragnet (1987)

A woman is abducted, dressed in a bridal gown, then thrown into a pool of water to be a human sacrifice to a hungry Anaconda.

Drunken Master II (The Legend of Drunken Master) (1994)

A young woman who sells snakes in an outdoor food market in China fills bags with her snakes then throws the snakes at soldiers, to scare them and make them drop their guns.

The Dude Ranger (1934)

A cowboy drops a rattlesnake onto a sleeping man's bed to try to kill him.

Eaten Alive! (1980)

Cobra venom is put on darts that are used to kill people.

Enter the Devil (1972)

Torch-carrying cult members throw people into a pit full of rattlesnakes to get rid of them.

Enter the Dragon (1973)

This is a rare example of a snake being used as a weapon that could actually have happened. Bruce Lee finds a venomous cobra left as a weapon to guard a doorway. (That part is not believable.) Lee catches the snake, puts it into a bag, then releases into a room to scare two men and force them out so he can go into the room. (This part is totally possible.)

Escort West (1958)

A man picks up a rattlesnake and throws it around the neck of an Indian warrior who is chasing him.

Eva Nera (1976)

A collector keeps some deadly snakes in cages. His brother uses the snakes to kill women.

Fair Game (1988) (Mamba)

A man tries to kill his ex-girlfriend by releasing a Black Mamba inside her house, then locking her inside.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)

Grindelwald waves his wand to make two giant snakes appear to strike at one of the men keeping him prisoner.

Fire Down Below (1997)

When some goons put rattlesnakes in his room to kill him, Steven Segal returns the favor and fills their truck with rattlesnakes.

The Fortune (1975)

Two fools buy a rattlesnake planning to use it to kill a woman so they can inherit her fortune.

Indian cultists torture a British soldier by threatening to throw him into a snake pit.

Hard Target (1993)

Jean-Claude Van Damme punches a rattlesnake in the face then makes a trap with it to kill one of the men who is hunting him. That works.

The Harvey Girls (1946)

Someone puts a rattlesnake in the Harvey girls' closet to try to scare them into leaving town, so a man pulls out his pistol and shoots the snake.

Hercules (2014)

Goddess Hera is angry that her husband Zeus fathered a child with a mortal woman. She sends snakes out of the eyes of a statue of herself to kill baby Hercules, but he easily kills them.

Hercules Against the Barbarians (1964)

Mongol soldiers lure Hercules into a pit with a big snake and try to kill him with an arrow. He wrestles the snake then kills it with the arrow.

The Hills Have Eyes (1977)

A girl picks up a rattlesnake and makes it bite a man who is trying to kill another man.

Holes (2003)

A boy intentionally gets himself bitten by a rattlesnake in order to get out of a prison camp in the desert where he digs holes all day.

Horns (2013)

A man accused of murdering his girlfriend, grows devil horns and finds snakes around him that he can use as weapons.

The House on Skull Mountain (1974)

Snakes are used by a voodoo priest to scare his victims. Some are scared to death.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)

Thousands of deadly snakes are dumped into the Hunger Games arena to kill the remaining contestants.

Indiana Jones & the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

The Ark of the Covenant is stored in an underground temple that is basically a gigantic snake pit full of snakes left there to guard the Ark.

A jealous man puts a venomous snake in a flower arrangement to kill a woman who rejected him.

Jennifer can control snakes with her mind and make them kill people.

The king's treasure chamber in a lost city is guarded by a talking cobra.

Jungle Cruise (2021)

An ancient Spanish explorer is bitten by a venomous snake then cursed to be made out of snakes. He can use the snakes to attack and kill.

The Kid Brother (1927)

Harold Lloyd picks up a stick to fight with, not knowing that there's a snake coiled around it. When his enemy sees the snake, he turns around and runs.

Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004)

Elle Driver hides a black mamba inside a suitcase full of cash so that when Budd starts counting the money, the deadly snake is uncovered and quickly bites him in the face killing him.

The Killer Snakes (She sha shou) (1975)

A bullied man uses his pet snakes to kill his tormentors.

King Serpent Island (She wang dao) (2021)

A henchman for a black market snake-hunting gang blocks the door then puts deadly snakes inside a cabin to kill people. One of the people is a woman who has been milking snake venom. During a fight, she pours snake venom onto the wounded face of one of the gangsters, killing him.

Labyrinth (1986)

The Goblin King turns his crystal ball into a snake then throws it around the neck of a teenage girl to warn her to forget about finding her stolen baby brother. The snake wraps around her neck, then turns into a scarf.

Land of the Pharaohs (1955)

In an elaborate murder plot, the second wife of a Pharaoh who wants to kill his queen gives a flute to the queen's son and teaches him to play a song that will attract cobras. When the boy plays the song in the queen's chamber, a cobra obtained from a snake charmer is released from a basket outside the chamber. The deadly snake is attracted to the flute playing and crawls next to the boy. When she sees the snake, the queen jumps on it and dies to protect her son.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981)

Mad Max grabs a venomous snake that's guarding a gyro helicopter but the snake's owner makes him put it down. Later, the snake's owner flies above Max and throws the snake out of his helicopter to kill some men who are trying to kill Max.

Maverick (1994)

Maverick is tied up on a horse with a noose around his neck that is tied to a tree branch. Just in case he escapes hanging to death, his captors drop a bag full of rattlesnakes on the ground below him.

A terrorist throws dozens of deadly snakes at a woman to force her to do what he wants.

Paul Temple Returns (Bombay Waterfront) (1952) IMDB

This British mystery is the last in a series of four films about the amateur detective Paul Temple. Here he searches for a serial killer who is terrorizing London using the name "The Marquis."

A snake (a large python) is left in a room to guard it from intruders. It's really just a plot device to enable the hero to shoot at the floor. He misses the snake, but breaks the floor tile the snake was crawling on, exposing a secret hiding place that the snake is protecting.

Using a snake as a guard is a nice exotic addition to a movie but in reality it's a bad idea because snakes will typically try to hide, unlike a guard dog.

The Player (1992)

A movie studio executive receives a post card with a rattlesnake on it. Later he discovers a real rattlesnake in his SUV that someone put there to scare him or kill him.

A group of murdering escaped convicts kidnap a woman then leave her tied up next to a rattlesnake.

Primal (2019)

A poacher's exotic animal freight on a cargo ship includes some highly-venomous snakes, but a dangerous prisoner on board escapes and releases the snakes, using them as weapons against his captors. One snake bites the ship captain on the leg.He puts one on a deck where he has disabled the water supply to make the crew go there. He dumps another snake in front of two bound and gagged prisoners so it will kill them.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010)

The Rattlesnake (1913)

As two men fight over a woman, one is accidentally killed by a rattlesnake. The surviving man catches the snake and keeps it at his home. After the woman he loves marries another man, the man puts the rattlesnake in her husband's bed to try to kill him.

The Resurrection of Jake The Snake (2015)

A broken down wrestler named Jake The Snake who used snakes in the ring against his opponents, fights addiction and physical decripitude.

The Rhythm Section (2020)

A giant syringe full of a deadly snake venom is used as a murder weapon.

River's End (2005)

A boy listens to his high school science teacher talk about poisonous snakes used as weapons: "Poisonous snakes have been used throughout history as weapons to kill. Placed in strategic locations at certain times they have been known to be quite effective. They've also been used as watchdogs or sentinels. You put one in your safe, no one's gonna steal the family jewels."

After that some boys bully him with a snake put in his face then down his pants.

Later, when the boy is put in a situation where he needs something to subdue two bad men, he catches a rattlesnake and hides it in a bag to be used as a weapon to bite a man on his face and kill him. And that works. (Another man is injured by a scorpion put in his boot.)

RRR (2022)

A captive man catches a snake in his hands which are tied behind his back. When his torturer returns he throws the snake at him and it bites him on the arm.

The Scorpion King (2002)

Evil conqueror Memnon suspects that his sorceress has lost her psychic powers. To prove that she hasn't lost them, he tells his henchmen to hide four venomous snakes inside six urns. She has to put her hand in only the urns that are empty, or die by snakebite. She tricks him and uses one of the snakes to attack him. Later he knocks over the urns to let the snakes get out to attack a swordfighting opponent.

Shadow of the Hawk (1976)

The ghost of a Native American shaman dances around with a deadly snake then uses her magic to send it to another shaman to bite him.

Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace (1962)

Sherlock Holmes finds a hidden compartment that holds a priceless necklace guarded by a snake.

Shotgun (1955)

Apaches tie a man to the stakes with rawhide that slowly tightens, gradually pulling him closer to a rattlesnake that is tied to another stake near his head.

Shotgun Stories (2007)

A man uses a Cottonmouth to kill a dog that belongs to his half brother, and doing so, escalates a family feud to violence and bloodshed.

A psycho locks a woman inside a basement room with a rattlesnake to kill her, and his crazy plan actually works.

Miss Fang is making an army of gigantic mutant snakes for the military. She buys several convicts from a women's prison to use as snake food then brings the women to her mansion. At midnight she tells the women that there are giant hungry snakes roaming her mansion and if the women can avoid being eaten by the time the sun rises, they will be set free.

A supersoldier is left for dead on a planet that is filled with deadly snakes. He throws an enemy soldier into a huge pit filled with snakes to kill him.

Sherlock Holmes solves a mystery involving a venomous snake that has been used to kill a woman.

Hyde gets revenge on a man he's jealous of by locking him in a room with a snake that kills him.
