This is a horror movie satire set in the 1930s when there were people who made a living acting on the radio. Larry (Gene Wilder - who wrote and directed the film) and Vickie (Gilda Radner) are radio voice actors who do a hit mystery radio show who are getting married, but Larry is so freaked out about it that he's having trouble acting. Larry's Uncle decides that Larry needs to be scared really bad to cure him of his wedding nerves, and he makes plans to do so.
They go to Larry's rich Aunt Kate's scary mansion for the wedding. Kate has just secretly changed her will to leave everything to Larry, but the secret got out. If he dies the fortune will be shared by the other family members. That puts Larry's life in danger, and it causes a lot of comic confusion when a hit man also pursues Larry along with the harmless attempts to scare him.
One of the attempts to scare (or maybe kill) Larry happens when he is in his room putting some clothing into a drawer and a snake jumps out of the drawer at him.
Another snake scare occurs when Larry enters a room to see a large snake draped over a chandelier above him which then drops down onto him.
These are two more silly examples of trying to use snakes as weapons. We see examples like this all the time in the movies, where it always works because the snakes do everything as planned, but in real life snakes are more likely to just crawl away and hide somewhere or simply sit still instead of trying to attack someone. Snakes are not good weapons, even if the plan is just to scare someone.
The first snake is a fake one, the second one is a live Boa Constrictor when it's on the chandelier, then they most likely used a fake snake when it falls on Larry.
