Lockjaw: Rise of the Kulev Serpent (aka Carnivorous) (2008)

Spoiler Alert !

Lockjaw Lockjaw Lockjaw
Lockjaw Lockjaw Lockjaw

This is one of the worst movies about a giant snake that eats people I have ever seen - and that's saying a lot since I've seen quite a few and none of them are really any good. The best you can say about any of them is that they're fun to watch because they're so bad. In this one there's a carved stick from  Africa that represents a voodoo serpent god called lockjaw that is used for revenge by those who were wronged. When somebody uses it to draw a picture, the people in the picture die. A young boy steals the stick from a voodoo man and draws a picture of his drunken wife-beating father and the father is dragged off into a cane field by the monster. Years later, the grown boy's wife finds the stick, then she is hit-and-run killed by a truck full of partying young people. The man gets drunk and draws another picture - of the people in the truck - and they start to die, beginning with driver and then there's the obligitory scene where a couple having sex are attacked. The man goes to the voodoo house for help and the voodoo man's son (who grew up to be the rapper DMX) tells him that nobody can stop the serpent except himself. So that's what he does, using an RPG. So in the end, lots of people died, a couple of good ones live, and DMX grabs his machete and cuts his way at night through a cane field back to voodooland. That's it, nowyou don't have to waste your time on this stinker.

The serpent is a cheap CGI effect that looks like a snake with the head of an alligator. DMX says that's because it represents both the African god and the creatures they found when they came to America. As most absurd movie snake monsters do, it behaves in ways that would embarrass any real snake - it skewers people and decapitates them with its tail and drags them off to its nest without eating them, and it rears up to glare at its victims before attacking, giving them plenty of time to shoot it.
