This is an animated adventure movie directed by Zack Snyder, who is best known for his comic book and superhero movies. This one has plenty of action, also. It's based on a series of books written by Kathryn Lasky and published in the early 21st century.

In the beginning we see a family of Barn Owls, including two young brothers Soren and Kludd. They live in the middle of a large tree where we see a talking snake, their nursemaid Mrs. P. (In the books she is blind - a "Western Blind Snake.") Soren and Kludd are abducted by a patrol of evil owls from St. Aggies, which calls itself an academy for orphaned owls, but actually it's a place full of abducted and enslaved owls who are forced to work to help the evil owls in their goal to take over the world.

Kludd stays to work as a henchman for the Academy boss, but Soren and a tiny female Elf Owl named Gylfie escape the academy and are taken in by Digger, a Burrowing Owl. As they rest in Digger's hollow, a very large Great Gray Owl named Twilight enters with a snake in his beak that he says is dinner, and dinner will not stop talking. The snake is Mrs. P, who is upset that she has been captured and demands that he put her down. Soren recognizes her and convinces Twilight, who wonders why some strange new owls are talking to a very moody talking dinner, to let her go. Soren and Mrs. P hug and catch up. She tells him she has been searching for him and Kludd since they were abducted.

Soren and Gylfie plan to fly to the island of Ga'Hoole, where there is a noble army of wise owls who can help him fight the owls of St. Aggies. Digger and Twilight decide to go with them. Mrs. P. convinces Soren to let her go with them. She is put in a piece of wood that is made into an instrument that Twilight carries with him.

They stop to get directions from an Echidna (an Australian animal - the movie was made in Australia) who is surprised to meet a snake. When they get to Ga'Hoole, we see all four owls and the snake sleeping in a tree. That's the last we see of Mrs. P. who plays no part in the epic battle scene to come.
