About 20 years after winning a Golden Globe and getting an Oscar nomination, Karen Black made this cheap horror comedy. I'll bet she had a lot of fun. She plays Auntie Lee, who lives outside the small desert community of Penance where she and her beautiful nieces make meat pies that they sell to fancy restaurants. Everybody seems to love her and her pies and her gorgeous nieces. But the truth is, they pray to Satan before dinner and Auntie Lee sends the hot nieces to the highway to shoot out the tires of cars full of out of town men and lure them back to the meat pie factory tempting them with sex. Then the girls brutally murder the men and grind them up and bake them into pies. After bringing four heavy metal musicians home one night, the girls each take one of them to a private room. One girl brings her man to her room to meet her friend, which turns out to be a rattlesnake. Her room has the most impressive terrarium setup I have ever seen, with giant rattlesnake sculptures and a cage holding a rattlesnake in the middle. She pulls out a live rat and feeds it to the snake and this seems to turn her on since she starts dancing suggestively around the giant rattlesnake sculptures. She strips the guy down to his underwear, paints him red, then kills him as if he's on a sacrificial alter with two giant snake fangs descending into his chest. If it wasn't for all the murdering and cannibal stuff, she'd get my vote for the best snake owner ever with the best snake room.
The snake we see strike the rat is a live Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnake.
