Movie cowboys, explorers, tough guys and tough girls, need to kill every snake they see because all snakes are deadly.
Walking away, leaving the snake alone, carrying it away with a stick, those easy and humane actions are for sissies.
For these movie heroes the only good snake is a dead snake.

Band of the Hand (1986) 

A juvenile criminal falls next to a rattlesnake in the Everglades and is bitten on the hand. As he is holding the snake up, another guy runs up, grabs the snake, and cuts its head off with a machete. OK, maybe he did it to keep it from biting anyone else. But still, the damage was already done.

Two boys encounter a rattlesnake in the woods and one of them picks it up by the tail and whips it to death.

The Big Gundown (1966)  

A snake crawls between a tied-up outlaw and a lawman. The outlaw tricks the lawman into thinking he was bitten by a snake by pricking him with a sharp object held between his toes. The lawman shoots it.
