Turbo Kid (2015)

Spoiler Alert !

Some of these pictures and descriptions may give away plot details that you might not want to know before watching the film.

This is a fun gore-filled sci-fi adventure parody set in an acid-rain wasteland in the post-apocalyptic future of 1997 where water is scarce and a crazy one-eyed tyrant named Zeus throws people into a machine to turn them into drinking water. The leader of his army of henchmen wears a metal skull mask and decapitates people with spinning circular saw blades that he shoots from a device on his arm. It's kind of like Mad Max but everyone rides BMX bikes.

A boy we know only as The Kid (Munro Chambers) is a scavenger who hunts for things to trade. He's obsessed with comics about the superhero Turbo Rider until he accidentally finds the corpse of the real Turbo Rider and starts wearing his uniform and lethal arm weapon, becoming Turbo Kid.

Before that, The Kid meets a girl his age named Apple (Laurence Leboeuf) who forces him to be her friend and makes him take her out scavenging. Later we learn that she is actually a robot programmed for friendship whose previous companion died. (She was a probably a sex robot, but that is never mentioned specifically.) Apple is an extremely cheerful "manic pixie dream" girl stereotype, but she's no damsel in distress - she's a fierce killer, programmed to fight.

Apple needs a helmet so they find a car with a skeleton wearing a helmet inside. The kid opens the car door to grab the helmet, but when he sees a snake crawling through the skull he backs away screaming. The snake quickly crawls away and Apple pulls the helmet off the skull and puts it on.

The snake is a real live milk snake, and not CGI, which is always nice to see.
