Multiple Mirror Effects in Movies

These are movies (and a few televison shows) with scenes that show multiple reflections in mirrors or other reflective surfaces. A chase scene in a mirror maze has become a cliché in horror movies and thrillers, but directors still seem to love them. Many of these scenes take place in carnival attractions in a room with a lot of mirrors called a Hall of Mirrors, a House of Mirrors, a Mirror Maze, a Mirror Labyrinth, or a Gallery of Mirrors, but some just have scenes with two or more mirrors or other reflective surfaces that create multiple reflections that create the effect of an Infinity Mirror (also known as an Infinite Mirror, or Endless Mirrors), with a series of smaller and smaller reflections appearing to recede into infinity. Some of these are filmed in elevators. In the real (non-movie) world mirrors are often intentionally installed to keep people from feeling claustrophobic, and when they are put on more than one wall of the elevator they can create an infinite effect, that a lot of filmmakers like. One movie on the list has a maze of cameras and video screens that simulate a mirror maze, another uses a video camera to create multiple images, and others are animated depictions of a hall of mirrors. I'm also including some scenes with multiple "funhouse mirrors" which distort the reflection rather than show reflections of reflections, though movies with funhouse mirror sceness are not the focus of this list because they are usually solitary mirrors, and there are also a few scenes with creative uses of more than one mirror.

Photographing mirrors in film is tricky, because they will also reflect the camera and crew, which can ruin a shot. Sometimes a camera is installed in a wall with its evidence removed in post production, and sometimes the reflection of the whole camera is removed. Sometimes the mirrors we see on screen are not really mirrors. They might be special effects such as green or blue screen composite shots, where one of the reflections is added later. And sometimes there are no mirrors at all just the actor and the back of another person made up to look like the actor who is mirroring their movements. These tricks are mostly used with single mirrors in a shot, and are might be too complicated to use in scenes with lots of mirrors. The techniques used to film mirror scenes is not the focus of this list, but they can be fascinating.

These YouTube videos show some of the tricks used when filming mirrors:
