Cat Hardy (Li Jun Li) is a nightclub singer whose life is controlled by the nightclub owner and gangster boss Silvermane (Brendon Gleeson) who picks her clothi, her songs, and her companions, and he killed the man she loved. Unable to put up with him anymore, she confesses to him that she hired a man to kill him. He points a gun at her head, ready to kill her, but he is distracted before he can pull the trigger. When the distraction leads to a fight which turns into a gunfight, Silvermane drops the gun and runs away. Cat picks up the gun and follows him into a storage area full of tall mirrors that we saw her singing in front of in her act in Episode 4 (below). She finds Silvermane and starts shooting at him, but she keeps hitting his reflection in the mirrors as they talk. She complains that he was too controlling and he laughs and says she loved being taken care of. She keeps shooting at his reflections until all the mirrors are broken all over the floor. If this looks familiar, that's because besides being a climactic gunfight in a mirror maze cliché, it pays direct homage to the classic mirror maze gunfight scene in the movie "The Lady From Shanghai" which was released 79 years earlier. You can watch the entire series in black-and-white or in color. Black-and-white more accurately fits the mid-century film noir story and cinematography, but the vintage color version also looks great, like an old classic movie made when color movies were new.
