After making the California trip, or living in the state for a while. not everybody wants to stay. These are some songs with lyrics that mention leaving California, or wanting to leave, taken from the main list of songs that mention California. Songs about leaving L.A. or some other place in California, or moving from one place in the state to another, are not included unless they also mention leaving the state. Stories about people and businesses leaving California (the "California Exodus") have become a staple in news reports and social media posts. People (including lots of Californians) love to criticize the state for its high cost of living, unfriendly business environment, and it's bewildering regulations, but most of these songs are about leaving the state for reasons more personal than political. There are far fewer songs on this list than there are on the "Going to California" list. Maybe songwriters think the optimism of going to a new place is a better subject for a song than leaving an old one.
