These are mostly Country and Western music songs with lyrics that mention California. They're all taken from the main list of songs that mention California.
Genres aren't as easily defined as they used to be. We now have country music artists singing on electronic dance music tracks, country rap, hick-hop, reggae country songs, pop and R&B artists making country albums, and many country artists making pop songs. Some of the songs on this list could also be labeled as Alt Country, Country Rock, Country Pop, Country Folk, Roots Music, Bluegrass, Americana, Traditional, etc., while others may just be a rock song with a steel guitar, but they all seem to fit together well on a country playlist to my ears. I'm not including some of the more traditional folk or folk genres such as sea shantys here, though.
