Even though it stars Johnny Depp and Amber Heard and it's based on a Hunter Thompson novel, this film didn't thrill me. It's about an alcoholic journalist working in Puerto Rico during the 1960s.
Aaron Eckhardt's character has a fancy beach house in Puerto Rico. There's a pet tortoise, or maybe it's a box turtle, named "Harry" with jewels glued all over his shell roaming around the house. Eckhardt's character says he got the idea from a book. I don't know what book he's talking about, but I hope this doesn't catch on with turtle enthusiasts. Painting a turtle's shell is known to be unhealthy - it can hinder their ability to absorb sunlight, cause respiratory problems, and allow toxic chemicals into the blood - and it's illegal in some states. Beadazzling a carapace can't be healthy for a turtle either. (There's another bedazzled tortoise in the movie Colette.) |
