This is a mystery based on an Agatha Christie novel. I need to reveal the killer in order to explain why there's a tortoise in it, because the tortoise is a clue, so you might want to watch the movie before reading any more.

The killer is a 12 year old girl named Josephine who thinks she's as clever as Sherlock Holmes. When her grandfather Aristide dies, one of his heirs suspects he was murders and asks an inspector to investigate. The inspector finds that a lot of Aristide's family have motives for the killing, but in the end we learn that the least expected one, Josephine, killed him because he stopped her from taking ballet lessons.

Josephine has a pet tortoise named Solome that we see walking around the mansion and the grounds of the estate. When the inspector asks the name of her tortoise, Josephine tells him it's Solome, the name of the dancer in the bible who dance before King Herod who was so impressed that he offered her a reward, and she asked him to bring her the head of John the Baptist on a platter, which he did. Josephine wanted to be a ballet dancer, and in one scene we see her dancing with the tortoise on the floor below her. The tortoise and her complaint that her grandfather stopped her from being a ballet dancer are all hints that Josephine is the killer.
