This is a slapstick comedy/mystery starring Bud Abbott and Lou Costello with a brief comic scene with a turtle.
Freddie Phillips (Lou Costello) is a bellhop at a secluded hotel who gets caught up in a series of murders. He goes into an underground cavern to meet with the killer who wants him to bring some incriminating evidence. Inside the dark cavern, Freddie lights a candle then sits down to wait. He puts the candle on a tortoise that he thinks is a rock until he sees the rock crawling away with the candle on it. As the masked killer watches him, Freddie gets up to follow the tortoise which slides down a ramp into a deep pit of bubbling mud. Then he tries to light another candle, but the killer has replaced it with a stick of dynamite. Fortunately he throws it away before it explodes.
The tortoise is a prop but it's well-made, with a moving head and legs that makes it look like a real tortoise at first.
