This is a Western directed by Clint Eastwood about Josey Wales, a wanted man who goes west after the Civil War, hoping to live a good life, but his past catches up with him.
In the lizard scene, we see Josey Wales sleeping when an Indian, Lone Watie, puts a horned lizard on a blanket next to Wales' face. Wales wakes up, sees the odd lizard, and sits up quickly. Watie says "A horned toad can tell you which way to go. I used to know these things when I was young, but when I got civilized I forgot all these things. I didn't know which way to go. The horned toad says we should go to Mexico." Wales picks it up, hands it to Watie and tells him he can go to Mexico but that he has unfinished business in Missouri.
The lizard we see is a live Blainville's (Coast) Horned Lizard, a nice dark grey one with white chevrons on the back. |
