This is a good biographical film about the composer Frederic Chopin and his companion George Sand, a female author who was notorious for wearing pants, which seems silly today, but was scandalous then.
During the opening credits, we see Sand when she is a young girl running through the woods and stopping at a little shrine set up at the base of some trees. She adds some decorations to the shrine then prays to a god named Corambe who she says is "man, woman, and God in one." Then she pulls a live bird out of her dress and sets it free as an offering. She says she wants to know the meaning of life and to find the perfect love. Then she takes a lizard out of her pocket to give as an offering, but when she finds out the lizard is dead, she throws it away and curses. We learn that this is a scene out of a memoir that Sand is writing when we hear narration saying that her little ritual in the woods didn't always go smoothly.
Some little kids also blow up a frog in the movie. |
