This is a 1981 comedy about prehistoric people living in one zillion B.C. that has a few fun lizard scenes. It uses a caveman language with no understandable dialog, so it relies on slapstick comedy like a silent movie. It stars former Beatle Ringo Star and the actress he met on this film and has been married to for more than 40 years, Barbara Bach. Dennis Quaid and Shelly Long also appear in it, along with pro football player John Matuszak. Ringo plays Atouk, a wimpy caveman who lusts after the sexy cavewoman Lana (Bach) who belongs to the tribe's leader Tonda (Matuszak.) Tonda banishes Atouk who meets other outcasts and starts a new tribe, eventually challenging Tonda, hoping to win Lana. Along the way Atuok discovers fire, cooking, music and dancing, making weapons, and how to walk upright. |

Early in the movie we see a lizard sitting on a giant meat-eating plant, as the plant closes on it. Atouk then show up and the plant tries to eat him.
The lizard appears to be either a fake lizard prop or maybe a stuffed dead lizard. |

We see a spiny lizard on a rock with Atouk looming over it about to grab it (probably to eat) when he sees a big green stop-motion dinosaur that chases him away.
The lizard looks a lot like a Desert Spiny Lizard, but since the movie was filmed in Mexico, it could be a Mexican species. |

One of the outcasts who join Atouk's tribe is a man named Nook, who carries around a large black lizard on his shoulder. When the other cavemen are eyeing his lizard as a possible meal, he shows them it's more valuable as a pointer. It points them to a giant bird egg. Later, when the tribe is preparing to attack the other tribe and is dressed in armor and helmets, we see the lizard also wearing a helmet.
This lizard is a species of Ctenosaur or Spiny-tailed Iguana, which appears to be alive in most of its scenes except for the pointing shot, where it is replaced with a lizard prop.
