This is a crude comedy with a funny alligator scene. Joe Dirt (David Spade) is a doofus with a lousy job, a crappy car, bad taste in t-shirts and a permanent mullet wig. Men beat him up, but for some reason beautiful women are attracted to him. When he was eight, he was abandoned by his parents during a family vacation to the Grand Canyon. He doesn't remember his last name or where his family lived, but he travels the country searching for them. When he gets to L.A., a syndicated shock radio DJ puts him on the air to tell his story, which makes him a national celebrity. (This was before smart phones and social media, obviously.)
While searching for his parents in Florida, Joe needs gas money so he finds a job at a Live Gator Farm. We see him putting on a show for a small crowd of tourists with a gigantic alligator named Rocky. He bends down and open Rocky's mouth, then puts his head inside, telling the audience he's checking for cavities but they shouldn't worry, Rocky knows not to mess with Mr. Joseph Dirt. Then Rocky closes his massive jaws and messes with Joseph Dirt, shaking him back and forth as the crowd cheers. Finally, Rocky spits him out onto the ground and the crowd applauds, thinking it's all part of the show. Joe tells his boss that it's like he's in a cartoon with tweeting sounds, and he's probably seeing stars, too.
The alligator is a fake, but a good one. It looks and moves real enough to get the joke across.
