Alligators and Crocodiles in Movies

Happy Gilmore (1996)

Spoiler Alert !

Some of these pictures and descriptions may give away plot details that you might not want to know before watching the film.

This is a slapstick comedy with a lot of real stick swinging, starring the great screen legend, Morris the Alligator, who sadly died at more than 80 years old. Adam Sandler is also in the movie. He plays Happy Gilmore, an angry hockey player who decides to become a golf pro because he has the most powerful golf drive in history and because he needs to make a lot of money quickly to help his grandma buy her house back that was taken by the worst villains in this world - the I.R.S.

Happy's mentor is an ex-pro golfer named Chubbs (Carl Weathers) who wears a wooden hand that keeps breaking. He lost his hand when golfing in Florida and an alligator bit it off. But somehow he managed to take one of the gator's eyes out, which he shows to Happy in a glass jar.

In Morris's big scene, Gilmore is golfing in Florida when he hits his golf ball and it bounces right into an alligator's mouth. He storms up to the gator and demands the ball, threatening to rip it out. When he tries to grab the ball, the alligator snaps its jaws, nearly biting off Gilmore's hand. But then Gilmore notices that the gator only has one eye and puts it together that its the same one that bit off the hand of his friend Chubbs. Seeing how angry Gilmore is, the gator retreats into the water hazard but Gilmore dives in after it, punching it on the head and wrestling with it. Gilmore head butts the gator and it passes out, then Gilmore gets the ball and shows it off to the crowd.

I wonder where he placed the ball and how they scored it.

Happy refused Chubb's offer to teach him how to putt, but after putting badly on the pro tour he realized that he'd better learn, so he goes back to Chubbs, who teaches him. He gives Chubbs a present - the head of the alligator that bit his hand off, but when he opens the box and sees the head, Chubbs freaks out and falls out a window to his death. At the end, Happy has a vision of Chubbs in Heaven with the alligator and, for some reason, Abraham Lincoln.

Besides the real live alligator, Morris, we also see some good alligator props, including the one Happy wrestles in the pond, and the severed head.
