This is a French language heist movie written, directed by, and starring Mélanie Laurent, about an organized gang of female criminals and a big art heist.
The movie begins with a woman running through the woods in Switzerland chased by security guards after she stole a precious diamond. She meets up with her partner and they drive away in an ATV. We see a wide shot of the mountainous area, then we see a Salamander crawling on the ground for two seconds, then we see an overhead shot of the women driving on a forest road, just before they are attacked by machine-gun fire from drones. (Are drones doing that now?)
The salamander is a Fire Salamander, Salamandra salamandra, which is native to parts of Switzerland, so that's nice. Why did the action pause to show us a salamander? Was it just for local color, or is Laurent a caudata-phile? Or maybe she's a fan of Salamanders in Movies and she slipped it in knowing that I love heist movies and would definitely watch one starring beautiful women? Yeah, that's the only explanation that makes sense. |
