This film by the great director Terrence Malick was nominated for Best Picture. It's about a family in Waco Texas in 1956. It follows the eldest son, Jack, from childhood into adulthood.

When Jack is a boy, he and his friends find a Gulf Coast Toad on a mowed lawn. They tie it to a rocket and shoot it into the air. (When I was that age, I watched boys do similar nasty things to toads.) Later we also see a random image of a green treefrog climbing on some tall leaves.

During an abstract section of the film that shows volcanos and planets and dinosaurs, we see a nice shot of an Axolotyl (or some kind of albino paedomorphic Ambystomatid salamander) swimming underwater.
