In this excellent Japanese samurai movie, a noble wandering Samurai fights for the rights of a group of farmers who are revolting against the repressive Magistrate who rules them. The Samurai makes a deal with the Magistrate to save three peasants who have kidnapped the Magistrate's daughter as a political stunt. The Samurai is tortured nearly to death and the three peasants are released. But instead of releasing the Samurai, the Magistrate has him thrown into a jail cell that is full of water. Wounded, starving, and desperate, he sees a frog, grabs it, shoves it in his mouth and eats it alive. A second Samurai comes by and sees him eating the frog and calls him a fool for believing the Magistrate, who had already ordered the three peasants to be killed. |
