The Isle The Isle The Isle
This was made by the same director who made the beautiful film Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring in which a boy tortures a frog. This one escalates the violence against frogs. We see a young mute Korean woman whack a frog with a stick to stun it, then bash it on the ground and rip it apart alive with her bare hands, like an animal. She tears off a piece of the frog's leg and tries to feed it to a caged bird. Besides killing for food, she also tortures fish and other animals, including herself. I got the impression her life has not been a bed of roses.

This movie is not for those who think it's wrong to show animals suffering for entertainment or art. British censors are usually very strict about censoring scenes that show animal suffering, but they left this scene in the movie, maybe because the frog was killed quickly before it was dismembered. I read that they did censor other scenes. I hate to think what those were.
