This is about two escaped convicts, a white man and a black man, who are chained together at the wrist. They start out hating each other, but learn to get along and end up respecting each other as friends. The movie won two oscars and was nominated for seven others, including Best Picture.
Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier play the convicts. In the frog scene, they have been running all day through a swamp, pursued by the law, when they spot a bullfrog. The camera pans up from the frog to the two convicts holding sticks as they jump into the water and run towards the frog, splashing and waving their sticks. Next we see them sitting by a small fire eating the frog.
We see a live bullfrog and hear the sound of a bullfrog calling, but we do not see the expanding and contracting throat sack we should see when a male bullfrog calls. But at least they used the sound a bullfrog makes instead of the sound of a Pacific Treefrog, as many movies do. |
